SAN NARCISO, Zambales— The Zambales Provincial Health Office (PHO) ordered a lockdown on the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) — a maritime school in this town — following reports that it has recorded 127 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.
The PHO disclosed that out of the total cases, 125 are students and the other two are staff members, which prompted them to recommend the lockdown on the area.
It also ordered the transfer of some of the severe cases to the provincial hospital in the capitol town of Iba.
However, the PHO explained that despite having severe cases, most of the cases in the school are asymptomatic and those who were infected are between 19 to 28 years old coming from different parts of the country.
The two staff members, on the other hand, are from town.
The provincial government, meantime, has put the area on lockdown, ordering a stricter border control on the municipality and also prohibited the entry of family members and other visitors to San Narciso.
