Gov’t urged: Bring more vaccines to provinces

The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) on Sunday called on the national government to provide more coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines to provinces, especially those who are under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).

In a statement, LPP president and Marinduque Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr. stressed that while they understand that vaccine supplies are limited as of the moment, there is a need to bring more vaccines to provinces under MGCQ to protect their residents.

“We can’t blame the government for the lack of supplies. We know that it is difficult to secure supplies,” Velasco said. “But we can see in local government units (LGU), especially under MGCQ, that we need to add more vaccine supplies. There is high protection if you get vaccinated so we need to add more supplies.”

The Marinduque governor also stressed that since areas in the so-called NCR Plus bubble — comprised of the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite and Rizal — are now under the general community quarantine (GCQ), vaccination should be done faster to reach herd immunity.

“Since we already lowered the quarantine status, we are asking that we receive more vaccines to provinces so that we can reach herd immunity,” said Velasco, adding that provincial governments already made payments and orders for vaccines but the supply has yet to arrive.

“We have little to no vaccines. Some have paid but it is still not enough and some supplies have yet to be delivered,” Velasco said.
