FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija — Five members of a communist terrorist group (CTG) and four of its supporters surrendered to authorities according to reports.
In a statement, 91st Infantry (Sinagtala) Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Reandrew Rubio disclosed that the rebels were trying to return to society.
The five surrendered an M16 rifle, two home-made shotguns, one cal. 45mm pistol, and a cal. 38mm pistol.
The group’s supporters, meantime, were part of another group organized by the CTG Barangay Tugatog, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.
“The mass surrender manifests good investment return. We exerted so much effort, now we are reaping the rewards. With this, we are even more motivated to work harder. We assure the public that the 91st Infantry Battalion, in collaboration with the PNP, won’t stop chasing insurgents until we annihilate their forces in our area,” said Rubio.
The five CTG members and four supporters undertook a Pledge of Support to the Government and burning of the New People’s Army flag followed after their withdrawal of support and surrender.
The returnees underwent debriefing and processing of possible government benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. The 91st IB also facilitated housing assistance to the former rebels and their supporters.
