CAMP BGEN M FLORENDO, La Union — Sting operations conducted by joint operatives from the local police here and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) resulted into the arrest of alleged leaders of the Saliganan Drug Group at Barangay Central West in Bauang, La Union.
PRO1 regional director B/Gen. Emmanuel Peralta revealed that the suspects — identified as Joy Lagpang Saliganan and Marlyn Gapuz, both residents of Barangay Central West — were arrested following a buy-bust operation carried out by joint operatives from the Bauang Municipal Police and the provincial Drug Enforcement Unit in coordination with the PDEA.
It was found out that Saliganan was identified as the leader of the drug group operating in La Union, while Gapuz was a PDEA Target Listed drug personality.
Peralta narrated that the sting ops yielded one piece heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, one knotted transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, four pieces heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu with an estimated weight of more or less 25 grams and estimated street value of P170,000 one cal. 22 revolver with three live ammunitions and drug paraphernalia.
The suspects are now under the custody of Bauang Municipal Police Station as Peralta lauded the operatives for their commitment in the implementation of anti-illegal drug campaign and stressed PRO1’s desire to wipe out illegal drug problem in region.
The PRO1 also launched recently the E-Sumbong project of the Philippine National Police under the leadership of its chief, Police General Guillermo Eleazar.
