Government forces on Thursday safely detonated 57 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Makilala, North Cotabato, the military said.
Members of the 11th Forward Service Support Unit and 39th Infantry Battalion carried out the disposal at a quarry site, according to the Army’s 10th Infantry Division.
The IEDs were confiscated, captured, surrendered, and recovered in different parts of the 10th ID’s area of responsibility from 2020 to this month, it said.
Meanwhile, the 10th ID said three IEDs were just recovered on Wednesday in Trento, Agusan del Sur.
Troops of the 67th Infantry Battalion recovered the dual purpose landmine-type IEDs in Sitio Cogonon, Brgy. Salvacion, with the help of a concerned citizen.
Those explosives were buried by New People’s Army members under Guerilla Front North of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee, the military said.
“These are the same type IEDs that have killed innocent civilians and security forces in the past, incidents that should be stopped once and for all,” said Col. Oliver Maquiling, 701st Infantry Brigade commander.
