A policeman in San Mateo, Rizal, was arrested for seeking money in exchange for a detainee’s document, Monday afternoon, authorities reported Tuesday.
Suspect SSgt. June Angeles was arrested during an entrapment operation at the San Mateo Police Station, according to reports from the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) and Calabarzon regional police.
Members of IMEG, the Special Action Force, and Intelligence Group carried out the operation around 4:15 p.m., in coordination with the local police chief.
Earlier, the wife of a detainee complained that Angeles was asking money in exchange for her husband’s certificate of detention.
Angeles was collared after he received the two marked P500 bills from the complainant.
Also seized from him were his .9mm pistol, three magazines, and 26 rounds of live ammunition.
Angeles has since been taken to the IMEG’s detention facility in Camp Crame, while criminal and administrative charges are being prepared against him.
