MANILA – A total of 168 licensed professionals have formally joined the police force’s roster of commissioned officers.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday administered the oath of office to the newest batch of police commissioned officers who joined the ranks through the 2021 Lateral Entry Program, which aims to recruit more technical service officers.

The newly-inducted officers include four lawyers and two medical doctors who were appointed to the initial rank of Police Captain with a basic monthly salary of PHP56,582 and allowances.

Also inducted were dentists, optometrists, psychologists, nurses, pharmacists, medical technologists, radiologic technologists, chemists, nutritionists, engineers, forensic criminologists, architects, and IT officers. They were appointed to the initial rank of Police Lieutenant with a basic monthly salary of PHP49,528 with allowances and other cash and non-cash benefits.

“Your achievement today defines your moral courage and strong determination to achieve your goal. From amongst hundreds of applicants who tried to take their chance, PNP has chosen you as the best among the rest, because our community deserves nothing but the best police service from us”, Eleazar said in his speech.

Eleazar noted that their badges and ranks represent their sworn commitment and responsibility to serve and protect the public with utmost integrity, credibility, and respect.

Lagi ninyong isapuso at isa isip na ang ranggo meron kayo ngayon ay may kakabit na pananagutan sa mamamayang Pilipino na panatilihin ang kaayusan, itaguyod ang karapatang pantao at wakasan ang kriminalidad at mga pangaabuso sa bansa (Always keep in your heart and mind that the rank you have today has an inherent responsibility to the Filipino people — to maintain order, promote human rights and end crime and abuses in the country),” Eleazar added.

As new technical officers, they will be designated in selected police regional offices and national operational support units.

Eleazar said the new police commissioned officers were formally turned over to the Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development (DHRDD) to undergo the mandatory Officers’ Basic Course and Field Training Program before reporting to their respective unit assignments.

The Lateral Entry Program for technical service officers is among the regular sources of Police Commissioned Officers in the PNP aside from the cadetship program in the PNP Academy.

Last Oct. 4, another 117 technical service professionals were inducted into the PNP Officer Corps. (PR)
