As expected, the American girl in Paris brought some jaw-dropping looks
Love it or hate it, Emily Cooper’s style is something that grabs your attention. And that is what fashion is, an art of appearances.
For the second season of Netflix’s “Emily In Paris,” the American girl in Paris demonstrated yet again daring fashion choices, that for many, can be easily described as très chic (that’s how far our French can go, sorry). Costume designer Marylin Fitoussi and Emmy-winning consulting costume designer Patricia Field curated looks are hard to miss and way beyond being ringarde.
“My motto, for this season and the last, has always been: ‘Too much good taste is boring.’ My trademark is eclecticism and mixing everything together,” Marylin says in an interview by Netflix. “So if people thought Season 1 was a little much, a little flashy, then Season 2 will be more so. And I’m proud of it. Emily has a strong personality, and we’ll keep her costumes just as strong this season.”
“It was very important that we try not to repeat what we did in the first season. I wanted to show our audience some new ideas,” Patricia adds. “We want to provide something new and exciting and interesting. Fashion is liquid and fashion, the most important thing, as far as I’m concerned about fashion, is, as other forms of art, it reflects the time. Whatever time we’re in, you will see it in the fashion. But we try to avoid fashion trends in the show. I say over and over again that trends die young; trends get very tired very quickly.”
One of the amazing facts about the show’s looks is its play on luxury brands and contemporary wear mixed with some vintage pieces. Marylin has been working in incorporating upcycling and recycling in her for the past seven years. Also, as the show gains millions of fans everywhere, she wants everyone to “be able to buy something they love, according to their resources. Buy designer if you can, buy H&M.”
In the spirit of Emily’s stylish journey in the City of Lights, we have listed down some of our favorite ensembles from the series’ second season that are too fabulous not to take a second look.
