We enjoyed watching the iWant TFC six-part mini-series titled “Bola Bola” which had a preview at the Cinema 1 of the Santolan Town Plaza last Sunday, March 20.
Present in the screening was the cast headed by Francine Diaz, “PBB” alumnus KD Estrada, and BGYO member Akira Morishita. Also in the screening were several fan groups who merrily cheered their idols.
Based on the best-selling romance novel by Anna Geronga, “Bola Bola” tells the story of Thea (Francine), a 220-pound high school student whose greatest love is food, Thea will experience the joys and pains of first love as she learns the importance self-love and valuing one’s worth.
Even since she was a child, Thea has been shamed by strangers due to her weight, Despite the harsh comments, she doesn’t let this affect her even if it pains her deep inside.
The series is directed by JP Habac and produced by iWant TFC, Dreamscape Entertainment and Kreative Den.
One thing noteworthy about the series is the good acting of the cast. Francine gives an engaging performance as Thea, the girl who wants to belong despite her size. Behind her happy façade is a girl grappling with her insecurity due to her weight problem.
For acting newbies KD and Aki, they fit their respective roles to a T. KD plays Julian, the best friend who is secretly in love with Thea, while Aki plays Lucas, the long-time crush of Thea. They have chemistry.
Also giving good support are Vance Larena, Arlene Muhlach and Danica Ontengco who plays the girlfriend of Aki.
The series captures the feel of the young students of today. The series also tackles body shaming and loving one’s self no matter how you look.
For sure, the young audience will like “Bola Bola” for its good vibe. The series starts streaming on March 26 on iWant TFC app and iwanttfc.com.
A new episode drops every weekend on March 27, April 2, April 3, April 9 and April 10.
Three-time “Tawag ng Tanghalan” champion Myko Manago has a new single titled “Home At Last” which has been released in Spotify on March 18.
Produced by RJA Productions LLC, which is based in San Francisco, USA, “Home At Last” certainly creates a last song syndrome (LSS) effect for those who hear it. Once you listen to this beautiful song, you’ll definitely have it playing in your head over and over.
On the creation of “Home At Last,” Dean, who composed the melody for the song, shared, “Our singer, Myko, and music arranger, Shardei are based in the Philippines, Joseph and I are in Singapore, and our producer, Tita Rosabella is in the USA. I can say that it is somewhat magical too, to be able to create a song with collaborators from different parts of the world, which is one of the coolest parts of this experience. The one thing that I love most about this collaboration is the convergence of different gifts and wrapping them with love, dream, determination, hard work, and passion.”
According to the Joseph, Dean and Shardei, they were fortunate to have given the song to Myko whose powerful singing voice made “Home At Last” such a delight to hear.
“There is nobody else who can give the song such kind of rendition except Myko,” said Dean. “His version was heartfelt and sincere.”
“Ang ganda kasi ng lyrics and melody so I believed that inspired me more when I recorded it,” said Myko.
The composers said Myko gave the song his own, distinct touch and that made the song even more beautiful.
“Home At Last” is now available on all online music streaming sites worldwide.
Former Star Magic talent Eduard Banez is producing music videos for international artists. He has done for “I Don’t Care” of Ed Sheeran. And he is planning to bring Sia to the Philippines once the pandemic is over.
Eduard used to work in MTV Asia and has modeled at Vogue. He is also part of a Nickelodeon series that is yet to be released.
“Music is my passion. I love doing music videos,” said Eduard who missed broadcasting. He went into newscasting and worked with NET 25 and co-anchored a tele-radio show with singer-comedian Arnell Ignacio on Radyo Singko 92.3 News FM.
He started singing at age five. However, it wasn’t until he turned 17 when he decided to pursue a music career.
His rendition of Rey Valera’s “Kahit Maputi Na ang Buhok Ko” on YouTube generated over 120,000 views.
He joined ABS-CBN’s Star Magic Batch 15 and was launched in 2006. Among his batchmates were Miss World 2013 Megan Young, Bela Padilla and Jessy Mendiola.
And then came the chance to go to the United States, where he found himself working behind the scenes with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Cassie Ventura and Sia, the Australian singer behind the songs “Chandelier” (1.9 billion YouTube views) and “Cheap Thrills” (which made her one of only a handful of women in their 40s to have a number-one hit).
