One person dead following fire at residence in Georgina, investigation underway

Paramedic Services and Georgina Fire and Rescue Services were called shortly after 3 p.m. to a residence on Highway 48.

York Regional Police stated that one person has died following a fire at a residence in the Town of Georgina Friday.

Paramedic Services and Georgina Fire and Rescue Services were called shortly after 3 p.m. to a residence on Highway 48, close to High Street, police said.

Officers said they arrived on scene to find the home engulfed in flames. The person was reportedly found dead inside the home.

Police said Fire and Rescue arrived and extinguished the flames.

The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating, police said.

Investigators are asking for those who may have seen or heard anything in the area to come forward.
