THE National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) announced on Wednesday that its emergency room has reached full capacity, urging patients seeking emergency care to go to other hospitals.

“Our Emergency Room has already accommodated three times its normal capacity and there were also no more vacant rooms in our wards,” the hospital posted on Facebook in Filipino.

The NKTI said that the bulk of incoming patients was composed of those undergoing dialysis, especially people afflicted with leptospirosis and Covid-19.

The hospital said it also lacked nurses, a pressing problem among government hospitals.

The Department of Health said Health Undersecretary for Field Implementation and Coordination Team for the National Capital Region, Dr. Nestor Santiago, has visited the NKTI to assess the situation.

The NKTI said patients needing emergency can call the National Patient Navigation and Referral Center at 0919-977-3333; 0917-878-7418; 0915-777-7777; (02) 886-505-00 or 1555 through PLDT landline.
