NATIONAL University (NU) withstood a gallant stand by Adamson University and won 25-22, 25-19, 25-27, 22-25, 15-10 on Wednesday, March 1, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Alyssa Solomon unleashed 28 points on 27 attacks and one service ace to lead the Lady Bulldogs, who raised their record to 2-0 and dropped the Lady Falcons to 1-1.
Bella Belen, likewise, came through for NU as she pumped in a triple-double of 23 points, 18 excellent receptions and 12 excellent digs, while Ces Robles and Erin Pangilinan added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs fought hard to claim the first two sets before the tough-fighting Lady Falcons upped the ante in the next two sets to force a decider.
NU started strong in the fifth set with a 4-0 run but Adamson managed to stay within striking distance at 9-10.
Belen drained back-to-back crosses and Pangilinan punched in a quick attack to make it a 13-10 advantage for the Lady Bulldogs.
Kate Santiago then scored on a kill before Solomon unleashed a counter and Lams Lamina delivered an ace to secure the win for NU.
