EIGHT-DIVISION world champion Manny Pacquiao has denied a certain video circulating in social media last week that he’s upset with international matchmaker Sean Gibbons, the president of his MP Promotions.
The 44-year-old former senator clarified to the media during a news conference organized by Alaxan FR and which also features Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo, that he’s not dismayed with Gibbons, who still represents MP Promotions.
“Nagre-represent pa rin siya sa MP Promotions, at siyempre inuutusan ko siya to represent us — MP Promotions [in abroad or in the US if there’s a potential bout],” Pacquiao said, adding that there is no problem with him and Gibbons.
The video also showed Pacquiao and former world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. having a little chat before accepting their Special Awards of Distinction during the Elorde Awards Trilogy Night.
Pacquiao remembered that during the 23rd Gabriel Flash Elorde Boxing Awards Banquet of Champions Trilogy Night at the Okada Grand Ballroom in Parañaque City last week, someone asked him if Gibbons made a “decision he wasn’t aware of.”
“My tinanong sa akin na may ginawang decision daw si Gibbons na hindi ko alam. Hindi ko naman alam ‘yun, basta ang sa akin, ‘pag hindi ko alam bakit ko sasagutin? Wala naman problem siya so far sa akin. [Somebody just asked me that [Sean] Gibbons has made a decision that I have no any knowledge of, then I replied to him that I have no idea what his question was all about. So why will I answer if I do not know what exactly it is? I don’t have any problem with him],” Pacquiao said.
The Filipino ring icon added that there was no word yet from Gibbons about a coming fight abroad.
“Wala pang latest update sa kanya kung ano ‘yung mga ginagawa niya sa US [There’s no latest update from him about what he’s doing in the United States],” he added.
Meanwhile, Gibbons called the video as “fake.”
Gibbons is currently negotiating a real comeback fight for Pacquiao late this year.
Last month, Gibbons revealed that negotiations for a welterweight showdown between Pacquiao and Conor Benn in the Middle East in Abu Dhabi sometime in June was already taking place, but no deal has yet been made.
