LA Salle finally scored one against National University (NU) as the Lady Spikers defeated the Lady Bulldogs 25-10, 25-15, 25-21 on Wednesday, March 22, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The victory snapped La Salle’s four-game losing streak against NU, including the 2-0 sweep in the UAAP Finals last season.

It also enabled the Lady Spikers to sweep the first round of the ongoing tournament and solidified their hold of the top spot entering the second round.

Morale-boosting as their win over the defending champs on Wednesday is middle blocker Fifi Sharma believes that they have not really accomplished anything yet this season.

Sharma, who scored 12 points in the win, said that they should remain focused to reach their goal of getting back into the championship round.

“As Ate Mars (Alba) said we still have to focus on our singular goal which is to get the championship this season so we shouldn’t over-sensationalize a win like this because there are many other games that we have to go through in order to get to what we need to achieve so we’ll take it one game at a time,” said Sharma.

“Everybody knows, all of my teammates know that. So I’m confident how we’re going to handle the pressure, I don’t even feel like other people are feeling pressured at all. We’re confident.”

Sharma said La Salle should not stay long on cloud nine because they take on the revenge-seeking Lady Bulldogs right away to open their second round campaign on Saturday.

“Us coaches, we always remind the players that this game is already over, the next game is going to be different,” said La Salle interim coach Noel Orcullo.

“I always remind them that if we win in a big game, we should have our feet on the ground right away. We shouldn’t be thinking of that win in the ensuing days because we’re preparing for our next game.”
