Albay under state of calamity

THE provincial government of Albay has placed the entire province under a state of calamity, due to Mayon Volcano’s increasing restiveness.

An announcement was made on the information office on Friday with the provincial council issuing Resolution 0607-2023, after conducting a special session that was live streamed on their Facebook page.

Mayon Volcano is currently under Alert Level 3 by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

“In the past 24-hour period, the Mayon Volcano Network recorded six dome-collapse Pyroclastic Density Currents (PDC) that lasted three to six minutes and one hundred ninety-nine rockfall events based on seismic and visual observations,” Phivolcs’ Friday volcanic bulletin wrote. — Aric John Sy Cua
