No more Conservative defections to Liberals, MP Gérard Deltell says

QUÉBEC — Quebec Conservative MP Gérard Deltell says no other Conservative elected official will succumb to Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal charm offensive.

Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont sent shock waves through the political world on Tuesday when he announced he was leaving the federal Conservatives to join the Liberals and support their budget.

Deltell told reporters today in Quebec City that d’Entremont’s departure was an isolated case and that there would be no others, from Quebec or elsewhere.

Fellow Quebec MP Jacques Gourde says the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre are a close-knit family.

Gourde was less categorical than Deltell, saying only that he didn’t think there would be more defections for now.

Poilievre was in Quebec City to deliver a speech to a gathering of businesspeople, but did not answer questions from reporters. — Caroline Plante, The Canadian Press
