Dennis Trillo beats 11 stars, including Jacob Elordi, Park Bo-gum, for Best Actor at the Asian Academy Creative Awards

Kapuso actor Dennis Trillo won Best Actor at the Asian Academy Creative Awards in Singapore, beating 11 other actors, including Hollywood star Jacob Elordi and K-drama actor Park Bo-gum, during ceremonies held on Dec. 4.Dennis Trillo

Dennis was named Best Actor In A Leading Role for his portrayal in “Green Bones,” produced by GMA Pictures. Jacob was nominated for the Australian series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” while Park was nominated for the Korean series “When Life Gives You Tangerine.”

Unfortunately, Dennis was not able to attend the event.

“Saving Grace,” an ABS-CBN series starring Sharon Cuneta and Julia Montes, also won Best Adaptation of an Existing Format (Scripted).

The Philippines received two awards during the event, with other nominations from different categories.

Nessa Valdellon, GMA Network Senior Vice President for Public Affairs, admitted that she and Dennis had been planning to attend the ceremonies.

“Here’s the thing: Dennis was supposed to go. And I was supposed to go to represent the 8 National Winners of GMA Public Affairs and GMA Pictures. But life happened. We figured in a roster of nominees that included Jacob Elordi and Park Bo-gum, what were his chances for the Best Actor award? Any case, the winner was just announced in Singapore. We got a photo of the trophy from the Asian Academy’s Philippine ambassador, Gigi Lara … at nakakaiyak na wala si Dennis doon,” said Nessa.

The Kapuso executive added, “Just got this info: the awards organizer said when the scores were tallied, no one came close to Dennis Trillo! Dennis was the runaway winner for Best Actor in a Lead Role in Asia at the 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards. (AACA has international law firm Baker McKenzie as its official awards auditor, overseeing the tally of final results.) So happy for Dennis … truly one of the greatest actors of his generation.”

Other award-giving bodies had cited Dennis for the same movie.

Directed by the esteemed filmmaker Zig Dulay and based on the original concept by GMA Public Affairs’ senior manager for documentaries, JC Rubio, “Green Bones” is the story of a soon-to-be-released prisoner named Domingo Zamora (Dennis Trillo), who was incarcerated for the murder of his sister. His release is put in jeopardy by Xavier Gonzaga (Ruru Madrid), a newly-assigned prison guard who makes it his personal mission to keep him behind bars.

The drama explores the belief that the presence of green bones in a person’s remains is proof of one’s goodness in life. — Robert Requintina
