  • Violence has continued in the Middle East as the United States and Israel sustained their assault on Iran following the death of the nation’s supreme leader.
  • The Israeli military said it had launched strikes early Monday at Beirut, a stronghold for the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.
  • Iran’s state media said more than 220 people have been killed since Saturday, while the American military said three of its service members have died.
  • Canada’s military is not participating in the conflict and was not involved in the planning for Saturday’s attack, the Defence Department said.
  • Canadians are advised to avoid all travel to a number of countries in the region.
