Angel Aquino clarifies ‘I Like Girls’ quote: I was just being myself

Veteran actress Angel Aquino is speaking out once again after her candid remark “I like girls” went viral, clarifying that it was never meant as a planned public coming out, but rather an honest, off-the-cuff reflection of who she is.

Angel admitted she was even surprised by how her statement was received.

“Ako rin nabigla ako. Kasi hindi ko naman siya pinlano. It wasn’t something like, ‘I’m coming out today,’” she said.

The actress explained that she never felt the need to “announce” anything about her sexuality, believing that her life had already been an open book to those who have followed her journey.

“I feel it’s something that people have known for a very long time, and we just don’t openly talk about it. They’ve seen me with people I’ve been with, and hindi ko naman siya tinago ever,” Angel shared.

Angel thanked both fans and the media for handling her statement with understanding rather than judgment.

“But thankfully, the press people have been kind not to pick on that… They waited for me to, I guess, say something about it,” she said.

She added that she appreciated how the public response remained respectful when she finally addressed the topic.

“I’m so thankful… the press did not give me a hard time, didn’t pry… and when I did, thank you for the kind response. I really appreciate the kindness that was offered.”

Angel emphasized that her relationships over the years were never hidden, but also never aggressively discussed by her.

“I love people I fell in love with, hindi ako namili,” she said candidly.

The conversation traces back to her October 2025 interview on “The Daily Dish,” where she casually said, “I like girls,” a remark that quickly spread online.

She later clarified in the same interview that the statement was being misunderstood.

“I fall in love with girls and women… it can sound weird kasi if you just take it as is, ‘I like girls,’” she explained, noting how social media can easily distort context.

Following her remarks, renewed attention also fell on Angel’s close association with director Malou Sevilla, whom she worked with on “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.”

The two have long been linked through public appearances and industry events, sparking speculation about the nature of their relationship—though neither has publicly confirmed details beyond friendship and professional ties.
