MANILA, Philippines — And then there were three.

The Adamson Lady Falcons tightened their grip on a Final Four spot after booting out the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 in their UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball matchup Wednesday evening at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

With La Salle and National University already qualified, only three teams remain in the running for the final two playoff spots — the 8-5 Adamson, and University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University, both of which are holding 7-5 win-loss records.

Shaina Nitura powered the Lady Falcons with 26 points on 23 attacks and three blocks. She also had six digs and six receptions.

Marie Aseo had 10 markers, while Frances Mordi and Eloi Dote had seven each.

After easy wins in the first two sets, the two squads were kept in a tight third set.

An error by Mordi tied things up at 11-all.

But eight straight points by Adamson, capped by an ace by Mordi, made it a 19-11 ballgame.

The set turnbed into an 11 point advantage, 24-13, after back-to-back service aces by Aseo.

UP tried to keep itself alive, but to no avail.

Kianne Olango powered UP with 13 points while Irah Jaboneta chipped in five in the losing effort for the now-5-8 Fighting Maroons. — Ralph Edwin Villanueva
