Marvel brings together its stars at CinemaCon as the studio debuts its first look at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Disney unveiled the first theatrical trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday on Thursday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, drawing strong reactions from the audience at Caesars Palace.
The footage offered a first look at Robert Downey Jr. as villain Doctor Doom, marking his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame.
Scenes teased a clash between Gambit and Shang-Chi, played by Channing Tatum and Simu Liu, alongside Patrick Stewart reprising Professor Xavier, warning of an approaching threat.
The trailer closed with Chris Evans returning as Captain America, catching Thor’s hammer before a stunned Chris Hemsworth.
Evans and Downey Jr. appeared at the event with directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo. Evans said he agreed to return only because the story gave a strong reason for Steve Rogers’ comeback.
The film follows Endgame and brings together characters, including the X-Men. It opens in U.S. theaters on Dec. 18, the same day as Dune: Part Three, in a pairing theater owners hope will lift year-end box office results.
The preview capped Disney’s CinemaCon showcase, where stars such as Tom Hanks, Dwayne Johnson, and Queen Latifah presented upcoming releases. Clips were also shown for The Mandalorian and Grogu, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and Toy Story 5. — Agence France Presse
