Negros Occidental’s 3rd district representative Javier Miguel Benitez has filed a resolution in the House of Representatives honoring Filipina performer Sophia Laforteza for her appearance at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
House Resolution No. 951, filed by Rep. Benitez, who chairs the House Special Committee on Creative Industries, commends Sophia, leader of global girl group KATSEYE, for what the measure describes as a milestone performance and her role in promoting Filipino talent on the international music stage.
The resolution notes that Laforteza is among the first Filipinos to perform at the California-based festival and cites the group’s growing global profile, including Grammy nominations.
It also calls for greater recognition of Filipino creatives contributing to the country’s cultural presence abroad, saying such achievements help open opportunities for other Filipino artists.
Benitez said supporting the creative sector remains part of broader efforts to strengthen the Philippines’ creative economy.
The measure seeks to formally recognize Laforteza for bringing pride to the country and inspiring aspiring Filipino artists.
