MANILA, Philippines — New generation “Sang’gre” stars Bianca Umali, Angel Guardian and Kelvin Miranda reflected on the impact of their roles in their careers and lives as their hit nightly show begins its finale days.
Bianca, Kelvin and Angel are three of the four new “Sang’gre” or keepers of the elemental gems that keep the peace of the enchanting world of Encantadia. They take on the mantle from their parents, who were the original keepers of the gems of air, water, earth and fire in the 2016 requel of the hit GMA-7 fantasy series “Encantadia.”
For Bianca, who played the main heroine Terra and keeper of the earth gem, her experience was transformative, especially because it was a five-year journey for her.
“Para sa akin is more of the internal work and the internal conditioning that it has shown me. It made me stronger internally. Gusto kong tanawin din ‘yung mga pinagdaanan namin. Bilang mga taong gumaganap sa mga karakter na ito dahil hindi po biro. ‘Yung commitment namin sa ilang taon na ibinigay namin ang mga buhay namin para dito,” she said.
“This is the fifth year that I’m doing ‘Encantadia.’ The first two years before I started taping, I was training for this. 2021 nang sinabi sa akin na mapapabilang ako. Ngayong 2026 na, limang taon din po na ‘yun ng buhay ko. Hindi po biro para basta-basta ibigay lang. And so lahat ng saya, ng lungkot, ng sakit, ng galit, ng bigat. I also acknowledge all of those as blessings. ‘Yung Bianca na nagsimula nito, is not the same Bianca na tatapos nitong kwento nito sa ngayon,” she added.
Angel said that being in the show was already a victory to her. The actress plays Deia, Mine-a-ve, a race previously unknown, who was chosen to guard the air gem even if she is not a direct descendant of the royal house of Lireo, one of the kingdoms of Encantadia.
“‘Yung pinagkatiwala sa akin ‘yung character ni Deia, ‘yun pa lang, panalo na ako. Mas tumapang ako dahil kay Deia. And I’m so grateful for that. Kaya kahit na siguro, tapos na ‘to for now, natutuwa ako na hindi matatapos ‘yung pag-asa at ‘yung tapang na binigay sa akin ni Deia,” she said.
Kelvin’s role is special in the Encantadia lore. His Adamus is the first known male Sang’gre (royal blood) keeper of a gem. Previously, gem keepers were traditionally females.
Adamus is descended from Alena (Gabbi Garcia), who was the previous water gem keeper, and Memfes, the deceased chief of the Gunikar tribe.
For Kelvin, the series offered a unique perspective both professionally and personally. He shared that the role pushed him to develop not just his character, but also himself. He compared the experience to witnessing both the highs and lows of life.
