Handwoven baskets, floral arrangements, and locally crafted pieces highlight the mix of heritage craftsmanship and contemporary styling featured at ‘The New Filipiniana’ pop-up

Filipiniana once belonged mostly to weddings, state functions, and school celebrations. It came with stiff sleeves, delicate fabrics, and the quiet pressure of formality. Many admired it, but few imagined wearing it on an ordinary day.

That image continues to change as younger designers reinterpret traditional Filipino clothing for a generation that moves between heritage and everyday style.

Pearls, shell accents, and handcrafted jewelry form part of the accessories featured in Kultura’s curated Filipiniana-inspired collection

At Kultura, “The New Filipiniana” pop-up at the SM Store, Ground Level, South Wing of SM Mall of Asia, shows how traditional silhouettes and indigenous textiles are being reshaped into clothing that feels less ceremonial and more personal.

The showcase gathers contemporary Filipino labels that rework familiar elements such as terno sleeves, embroidered pañuelos, and handwoven piña fabrics into pieces designed for modern wardrobes. Filipiniana takes shape as clothing that can move through daily life.

That shift opens a new reading of Filipiniana—a woven top paired with denim. Traditional embroidery appears on relaxed silhouettes. Pearl accessories sit alongside minimalist styling.

The pop-up also gives visitors a closer look at the craftsmanship behind the pieces. Through a Textile Touch Display, guests can examine the textures and fabrics used in featured garments and handcrafted bags. A Charms Bar offers customized bracelets, earrings, and necklaces that complement Filipiniana-inspired outfits.
