Kehlani expands her sound across R&B and hip-hop on her latest self-titled album
Kehlani has released a self-titled fifth studio album, arriving after the R&B artist won two Grammy Awards for the single “Folded.”
Released on April 24, Kehlani’s birthday, KEHLANI includes 17 tracks and features appearances from Brandy, Usher, Missy Elliott, Cardi B, Lil Wayne, Clipse, T-Pain, Lil Jon, Big Sean, and Leon Thomas.
The album follows the run of “Folded,” which won Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance at the Grammy Awards.
Instead of leaning only on one sound, the album brings Kehlani into different corners of R&B and hip-hop. Brandy appears on “I Need You,” Usher joins “Shoulda Never,” while Missy Elliott is featured on “Back and Forth.”
The self-titled release comes after While We Wait 2, which Kehlani released in 2024. It also adds to a catalog that includes “SweetSexySavage,” “It Was Good Until It Wasn’t,” “Blue Water Road,” and “Crash.”
Other tracks on the album include “Anotha Luva” featuring Lil Wayne, “No Such Thing” featuring Clipse, “Pocket” featuring Cardi B, “Lights On” featuring Big Sean, and “Sweet Nuthins” featuring Leon Thomas. — Jasper Valdez
