Filipino photographer Jan Mayo will exhibit at London’s National Portrait Gallery after his portrait “Drag Queen in Waiting” was selected for the 2026 Winston Taylor Photo Portrait Prize.
The photograph is one of 55 works chosen from 3,977 entries submitted from 55 countries. The exhibition will run from Nov. 5, 2026, to Jan. 17, 2027.
“Drag Queen in Waiting” features veteran Manila drag performer Let Let backstage at O Bar before a show. Mayo took the image for a 2025 editorial on local drag culture, though it was not included in the published feature. It was later shown at Somerset House during the Sony World Photography Awards 2026 exhibition.

“Photographers from the Philippines and the Global South have historically had less visibility in major Western photography competitions and institutions, so this inclusion is larger than a personal achievement,” Mayo told Tatler Asia.
Mayo, who trained as a pilot and dancer, has exhibited work at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, the University of Tokyo and the National Museum of the Philippines.
In 2024, the National Museum of Natural History presented his “Faces and Flora” exhibition.
