Five moments SB19 showcases Pinoy pride at Lollapalooza

From tightly executed dance breaks to a Francis M classic, P-pop Kings SB19 filled its Lollapalooza set with moments that carried Filipino identity far beyond the stage.

Members Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin became the first Filipino act to perform at the festival, taking over the Allianz Stage with a nearly hourlong set that moved from sharp choreography to vocal-heavy songs and crowd-ready anthems.

Here are five moments that SB19 showcases Filipino pride at the festival.

Dance breaks worthy of the festival stage

SB19 kicked off its set with “DAM” before moving into “GENTO,” which came with a new dance break. The group later brought out another fresh arrangement during “Crimzone,” combining synchronized choreography with the force that has become a fixture of its live performances.

Lollapalooza gets a taste of Filipino chakra

The group slowed the pace with “MAPA” and “Wakas,” allowing their voices and harmonies to lead the performance. The crowd sang along to “MAPA,” while small Philippine flags could be seen waving during the tribute to parents. The segment gave the festival what Pinoys have called the “Filipino throat chakra.”

After introducing themselves, the members performed “Lawless” live for the first time. The newly released track carried low guitar riffs and a steady beat, while the performance gave an international audience its first full look at the song onstage.

“DUNGKA” arrived near the end of the set as SB19 shifted the festival grounds into party mode. Benny the Bull, the Chicago Bulls mascot, joined the group onstage and danced with the members during the song’s final stretch.

Bringing Francis M’s ‘Mga Kababayan’ to Chicago

SB19 also previewed its version of Francis Magalona’s “Mga Kababayan,” recorded for the upcoming DreamWorks animated film Forgotten Island. The performance brought a Filipino anthem to one of the world’s biggest music festivals while paying tribute to one of OPM’s most influential voices.
