TV5 expands programming slate with new shows ‘Mommy Guard,’ ‘Frontline sa Umaga’ 

TV5 is strengthening its programming lineup for the second half of 2026 with a mix of entertainment, news, public service, music and talent-driven shows, led by the highly anticipated TV reunion of Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal in the morning series “Mommy Guard.”

The Kapatid Network unveiled its expanded slate during its trade launch on Aug. 6, building on the momentum of its existing programs, including “A Secret in Prague,” “My Bespren Emman” and “Face to Face with Ate Korina.”

TV5 President and CEO Guido Zaballero said the network’s strategy is centered on bringing Filipino stories to wider audiences through television and digital platforms.

“Across television, digital, or wherever audiences choose to watch, we’re committed to telling stories that inspire, entertain, inform, and connect. Our mission remains the same: to bring great Filipino stories to more Filipinos,” Zaballero said in his speech.

Among the network’s current programs is “A Secret in Prague,” starring Andrea Brillantes and Enrique Gil. The series follows Chiara, a young woman raised in Prague who embarks on a journey of self-discovery while confronting questions about what matters most in her life.

“Chiara grew up in Prague and comes from a wealthy family. Now, she has a lot to learn because she has chosen to change and learn how to live simply,” Brillantes said. She added that her character will eventually face a difficult choice between what she wants and what she loves.

“I’m not trying to do anything new. I’m just growing up as a woman and learning a lot about myself and from everyone I work with,” she said.

Meanwhile, “My Bespren Emman,” starring Shaina Magdayao and JM de Guzman, continues to connect with viewers through its story of friendship, family, resilience and second chances.

De Guzman said that working on the faith-centered series has had a personal impact on him. He recalled struggling with his spiritual connection before accepting the project.

“But while we were doing this, when I would talk to Eman and prepare for the role, I would really meditate and pray to have a connection with God,” he said, adding that the practice has given him a sense of clarity.

Sanchez-Roxas said she was impressed by how quickly her team transformed the program’s format for its second season, shifting from its previous confrontational setup to a more home-centered approach.

“I’m very impressed with how they were able to tweak it and have a completely different format in a matter of just a few weeks. From ‘bakbakan,’ now we’re really like ‘Korina ng Tahanan.’ So, it’s a happy change,” Sanchez-Roxas said.

The revamped program also gives the spotlight to young talents while offering practical advice such as tips on starting a business from home.

Lingao said the morning program aims to balance serious journalism with a lighter approach.

“I think what we want to show is that we want the morning show to be serious and fun, and seriously fun,” Lingao said.

He added that the goal is to help viewers “start their morning right” with the right information and attitude.

For Magdangal, the reunion is an opportunity to bring their longtime chemistry to a new generation while giving longtime fans a dose of nostalgia.

“Marvin and I are happy that the people who loved us in the ’90s are still loving us now. And there’s a change. Their children are loving us now,” she said.

She said “Mommy Guard” retains the romance audiences expect from the tandem while introducing conflicts shaped by their characters’ lives as adults.

Agustin said the pair’s connection remains professional, saying, “We love each other so much. It’s personal, it’s work. And I guess that’s why the magic that we’re happy you enjoy whenever we perform is still there.”

Joining them in the series are Cedric Juan, Pearl Gonzales, Nathalie Apollo, Amo Widing, Celyn David, Patrick Ballesteros and Roxanne Guinoo.

Giving talents more opportunities

Beyond its new entertainment and news offerings, TV5 is also launching “Star Worx: True to Life,” a talent-driven property designed to give emerging artists a larger platform across television and digital media.

The network is likewise refreshing its music and variety program “Vibe Plus” as it celebrates its anniversary. The program will feature established performers, emerging artists, Filipino musicians and new voices through live performances, collaborations and music-driven content.

Zaballero said the expansion reflects TV5’s broader goal of giving Filipino talent more opportunities.

The network’s second-half slate also includes the continuing primetime offerings “Sigabo” and “Someone, Someday,” as well as game shows “Everybody Sing” and “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal.”

Zaballero said the network’s renewed partnership with ABS-CBN is part of that expansion, allowing TV5 content to reach more viewers while creating opportunities for Filipino stories and talent.

“When great stories reach more people, everyone benefits. Our audiences, our creators, our advertisers, and our partners, and ultimately, the whole industry,” Zaballero concluded.
