327 barangays affected, over 17,000 evacuated by massive flooding in Pampanga

PAMPANGA — Flooding continued to affect several communities in Pampanga as intermittent rains and water flowing from upstream areas push water levels higher in rivers, waterways, drainage systems, and low-lying areas across the province.

According to the Pampanga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 327 barangays in 20 local government units were affected by the flooding.

More than 17,000 individuals have been evacuated as rescue and evacuation operations continue in communities affected by rising floodwaters.

Amid the worsening situation, Governor Lilia Pineda and Vice Governor Dennis Pineda led an emergency inter-agency meeting with representatives from the Office of Civil Defense, Department of National Defense, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, water and electric cooperatives, and several mayors.

The meeting focused on sustaining food supplies in evacuation centers, ensuring safe water supply particularly in Macabebe, providing additional medicines and medical assistance, augmenting relief goods in hard-to-reach areas, and deploying additional rescue personnel.

Also discussed, the heavy traffic along the North Luzon Expressway, which could affect the movement of people and the delivery of essential supplies to Pampanga and other parts of North Luzon.
