Philippines, Nigeria can develop, explore many opportunities — Marcos

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of the Philippines Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas presented his Letter of Credence to Marcos at Malacañan Palace on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

During the presentation of credentials, Marcos told the Nigerian envoy that their countries can potentially expand their partnership in energy security, trade, and investment.

“The Philippines and Nigeria have significant potential to expand cooperation especially in energy security, trade and investment, and pursue initiatives that would mutually benefit our peoples and our countries,” Marcos said.

“There are many things that, in my view, we can explore and develop. There are so many opportunities that will be of mutual benefit to both our countries,” the President added.

“During your tenure as Ambassador, I look forward to further strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries,” Marcos also said.

Marcos further said he looks forward to working with the Nigerian ambassador to promote and deepen the Philippines’ and Nigeria’s collaboration and cooperation, which has spanned 64 years.

Ambassador Ibas, for his part, assured the President that he would work hard to strengthen the friendly, strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ibas was joined by his wife and other Embassy officials during the ceremony.

Also present during the event were Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, DFA Assistant Secretary Germinia Aguilar-Usudan, and Deputy Chief of Presidential Protocol Dennis Briones.

The Philippines and Nigeria established diplomatic relations on August 1, 1962, and will mark 65 years of diplomatic relations in 2027. — Betheena Unite
