Yume at Riverpark brings Japanese-inspired design to everyday family living in Cavite

The 18-ha development in General Trias, Cavite, is Federal Land NRE Global Inc.’s (FNG) first project in the province, created through its partnership with Japan’s Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. Drawing from Nomura’s PROUD Season line, Arch. Ed Calma of Lor Calma and Partners adapts Japanese principles of clean lines, efficient planning, and considered use of space to the Philippine setting.

The Japanese influence is apparent even before entering the community, with its landscape and pathways setting the tone for the design inside. “To create a place, you have to define certain nodes and edges and boundaries that will create a mental picture for the viewer or for the person going into the development,” Calma shared. “While you’re going through the development, you have a unique Japanese landscape, which is very zen. You get to see a gatehouse inspired by the torii gates in Japanese temples, with model units along the pathway toward the clubhouse that creates this kind of anticipation.”

This design philosophy extends to the homes, where material efficiency, simplicity, and minimalism shape the spaces. The layouts balance Japanese space efficiency with the larger spaces Filipino households typically need, creating areas for gathering, playing, relaxing, and spending time alone. Each space is planned for a specific use without simply adding more floor area.

These principles come through in the development’s three house designs, each suited to a different stage of life. Hikari is a home for couples starting out, with Japanese details such as a genkan for removing shoes and a doma for handling everyday items before entering the main living areas. It also features generous storage integrated into the layout, supporting a more organized way of living where everyday essentials have a place without taking away from the openness of the home.

The Niwa caters to growing households, with a lanai and spaces that connect with the garden. For larger or multigenerational households, the Miyabi offers a tatami room, an engawa that creates a transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, and dedicated spaces for family use.

Across the wider development, shared spaces are planned around everyday routines and community life. The project’s master plan places six pocket parks, a central park, and shared clubhouse amenities within a 100-m walking radius. These serve different routines and interests, including quieter areas, family and play spaces, and areas for pets. A Japanese garden and wellness spa add places to slow down, while the wider Riverpark estate connects residents to nearby commercial, retail, and educational destinations. Access to CALAX further supports its position within Cavite’s growing residential corridor.

A dream home does not have to remain a distant idea. Yume at Riverpark brings that idea into its homes and community, with Japanese principles adapted to the needs of Filipino households. — Rodmill Lopez
