GOT FANS RISE!
HBO and Warner Bros. have officially slated “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest” for a theatrical release on June 6, 2029. The project marks the franchise’s first feature film set within the fictional universe of Westeros.
The upcoming film will be directed by Owen Harris.
According to reports, the film will center on Aegon I, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and will chronicle his conquest of Westeros centuries before the events of the original “Game of Thrones” series.
Casting for the role of Aegon I has yet to be announced.
Warner Bros. first announced “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest” at CinemaCon in April 2026 without naming a director, writer, or release date.
“Game of Thrones,” which was based on the bestselling fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, ran for eight seasons on HBO between 2011 and 2019 and earned numerous Emmy Awards during its run.
The film comes as HBO continues to expand the “Game of Thrones” universe.
“House of the Dragon” is set to return for a fourth season, while “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has been renewed for a second season. — Carissa Alcantara
