Central Visayas health authorities urge public to get vaccinated

CEBU CITY – The Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) urged the public to get vaccinated against Covid-19 even if there has been no increase of new infections.

Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH-7 chief, said getting vaccinated is now easier as the Covid-19 vaccination is now part of the agency’s immunization program.

Being part of the immunization program means that rural health units and health centers can now administer Covid-19 shots, said Bernadas.

Bernadas encouraged the public, especially senior citizens, to have themselves vaccinated.

The low 61.18 percent vaccination coverage rate was the reason why Cebu province was placed under Alert Level 2, Bernadas said.

As of May 3, Region 7 only has 627 active Covid-19 cases.

Cebu City has the most active cases with 218 followed by Negros Oriental with 181 and Cebu province with 109.

Lapu-Lapu City has 32 active cases, Mandaue City, 31; Bohol, 26; and Siquijor, four.

A total of 197,834 of Covid-19 cases with 7,617 deaths have been recorded in Central Visayas, data from the DOH-7 showed.

“Covid cases in the region are not increasing but we are still encouraging the public to get vaccinated,” said Bernadas.
