Pakistan’s weekly inflation jumps over 48%

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), posted an increase of 48.35 percent on a year-on-year basis, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Saturday.

A sharp increase was witnessed in the prices of essential food items including bread, milk, pulses, chicken, mutton, eggs, potatoes and other nonfood items during the week ending on Friday as compared to the corresponding time last year, PBS officials told Xinhua, quoting the bureau’s data.

During the week under review, SPI was recorded at 254.84 points against 252.20 points registered last week, the PBS data showed.

On the other hand, prices of food items including cooking oil, garlic, tomatoes, onions, mustard oil as well as diesel showed a downward trajectory during the week.
