Eala upsets world No. 5 in ITF Spain tournament

Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala has won in the round of 32 of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Spain 15A tournament on Thursday.

Eala beat Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian in three sets, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2 in the singles event at the Pista Amutio hard court of the Peña Vitoriana Tenis Club in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.

Cristian was world No. 5 in the junior standings and is ranked 123rd worldwide.

Eala will later face Mi Tianmi from China in the round of 16 and will also be in the doubles tournament with her Spanish partner, Marina Bassola, facing off against Latvia’s Diana Marcinkevica and France’s Cascino.
