Rondina frustrated as ‘off game’ comes at inopportune time

Choco Mucho wing spiker Sisi Rondina couldn’t hide her disappointment as her Flying Titans succumbed to the Cignal HD Spikers, 15-25, 21-25, 21-25, in the PVL Invitational Conference at the PhilSports Arena on Tuesday, July 18.

The loss took Choco Mucho out of semis contention as the Flying Titans finished the elimination round with a 3-2 slate and were relegated to the classification phase.

Rondina didn’t play that well as she pumped in 14 points on an inefficient 11-of-40 attack clip. She wished she could have helped her team more.

“I’m sad. I’m not really used to losing so it feels heavy especially that I wasn’t able to help my teammates to lift them up but I’m sure that I gave my best for them, for the team, and for our coaches,” said Rondina.

“We’re in this together. As I’ve told them, we win as one and we lose as one,” added Rondina, who’s been the heavy hitter for Choco Mucho this conference despite having just returned to indoor volleyball after spending four years in the sands.

While the 26-year-old Rondina admitted that the Flying Titans played subpar especially in the reception department where they went 21-of-71, she’s happy that the team played their hearts out.

She added that while the Flying Titans have so much to do, they nonetheless have come so far this conference.

“Our reception game was non-existent. I admit that I had an off game but I tried my best to show how the team should play together. Despite Cignal was on the verge of winning, we kept on fighting. It’s a good thing that we really fought and I’m happy about that,” said Rondina.

“Our effort was there. The good thing was that we fought hard. It’s my first conference with them and as I’ve said we have a lot of work to do but we’ve already done so much as well. That’s what we’ve been holding on.”

Job’s not done for Rondina and the Flying Titans as they still have a classification phase – battle for seventh match against the winner between PLDT and Chery Tiggo which were playing on Tuesday evening.

“We’re going to train for the classification matches. We’re back to the drawing board and we’re still going to trust each other and our coaches.”
