One of the multiple heat domes that have plagued the Northern Hemisphere in recent weeks is pushing closer to Western Canada. The hot temperatures associated with it are helping to spark daily threats of thunderstorms in parts of the region.

Monday’s severe storm risk will be confined to parts of the northern and central Prairies. Parts of B.C., as well as Manitoba and Saskatchewan, could see less severe storms develop.

Heat Dome West

Monday

Areas: AB, SK,MB, and B.C.

Timing: Afternoon through the early overnight hours

Weather: Thunderstorms will develop late tonight around the Alberta foothills and continue to head northeast. The main threats to this system include strong wind gusts and large hail that could reach golf ball size.

PR Storm Risk

There is also a small chance that storms will develop in Saskatchewan and Manitoba as well. The extreme temperatures across the southern portions of both provinces reduce this risk even further.

Meanwhile, hot temperatures will continue on the southern Prairies as the edge of the heat dome roasting the southwestern United States nudges north of the border.

AB Temps

Extreme southern sections of Alberta could close in on the 40-degree mark, which would rank among the warmest temperatures measured in Canada outside of B.C. so far this year.
