One person was killed and another seriously hurt Tuesday evening in a crash on Highway 2 south of Calgary.

RCMP said the collision happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 2 and 338th Avenue, northeast of Okotoks, Alta.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, an RCMP spokesperson, said investigators believe the crash involved two vehicles.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, EMS said. Another was airlifted to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with life-threatening injuries.

These two people, Savinkoff said, were thrown from the same vehicle.

Individuals in the second vehicle suffered minor injuries, Savinkoff said. It’s yet unclear how many people in this second vehicle were hurt.

Emergency crews brought one of these people to Foothills Medical Centre for treatment, EMS said.

RCMP officials remain on the scene of the crash, where northbound traffic has been redirected onto 64th Street. Crews are expected to remain at the intersection until late Tuesday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
