Alex Eala improves world ranking

ALEX Eala moved up in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings.

From 248th, the Filipino tennis ace rose to 217th in the world as of Tuesday, August 22.

Eala, though, is still thee ranks lower than her career-best 214th.

The 18-year-old leaped 31 notches in the rankings after back-to-back finals appearances in the United Kingdom.

Eala ruled the W25 Roehampton tourney where she dispatched Russian-Aussie Arina Rodionava, 6-2, 6-3, on August 13.

The win gave Eala her fourth professional crown.

She made her finals return in the W25 Aldershot but yielded to Aussie Destanee Aiava in the final, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6, on August 20.

Eala and Aiava were partners in the W25 Roehampton doubles event where they reached the quarterfinals.

Eala also participated in the W25 Aldershot doubles tourney with Polish partner Urszula Radwanska.

They got booted out by the Japanese duo of Saki Imamura and Erina Hayashi in the semifinals, 4-6, 4-6.
