Mikee Mojdeh bags 8 golds in PSI Grand Prix

PROMISING swimmer Mikhael Jasper “Mikee” Mojdeh is making a name on his own, leading the Philippines BEST (Behrouz Elite Swimming Team) to 17-gold medal haul in the PSI Grand Prix Developmental Swimming Championships held at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

The Filipino-Iranian tanker Mojdeh collected eight gold medals to dominate the boys’ 6-over division.

He had a good start by claiming the top honors in the 50-m breaststroke event with a time of 56.89 seconds.

Mojdeh followed it up with two more mints in the 100-m backstroke (1:37.19) and 100-m butterfly (1:56.56) before topping the 50-m backstroke (45.90), 50-m freestyle (39.32) and 50-m butterfly (47.62) events.

“I was so surprised with how well Mikee has been performing since we just let him be since he is still young,” said PH BEST team manager Joan Mojdeh, mother of Mikhael Jasper.

Mojdeh ended his campaign with a bang, claiming two more gold medals in 100-m breaststroke (2:07.54) and 100-m freestyle (1:26.18).

“We have observed that he is such a team player who always pushes his teammates and even coaches them. He is even so eager in training and always wants to go fast. Maybe growing up surrounded with his sister and brother it felt normal to him with a lot of medals at home,” added Joan.

Mikhael Jasper is one of the three Mojdehs in the swimming community.

He is the younger brother of World Junior Championships semifinalist and Philippine national junior record holder Micaela Jasmine, and multi-gold medalist Mohammad Behrouz.

“I would like to thank coach Jeremiah Paez who has been coaching my boys and having a great chemistry with them that allows them to work well together,” Joan said.

The other members of the PH BEST are Leon James Alicer (5 golds in boys’ 13-year), Therese Annika Quinto (4 golds in girls’ 12-year), Charlene Pasaylo (2 bronzes in girls’ 12-year) and Kaidyn Waskiewicz (girls’ 10-year).
