Flying Titans also strike back, trample Foxies

Choco Mucho recovered from a humbling four-set defeat to fancied sister team Creamline with a big 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 rout of Farm Fresh in the nightcap as the Flying Titans joined the PLDT High Speed Hitters and the Akari Chargers at sixth in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference elims at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.

The high-flying Sisi Rondina soared for a 21-hit performance, highlighted by 17 vicious attacks and three blocks for the Flying Titans, who struggled trying to find their rhythm and bearing in the early going but turned a losing stand into a huge victory behind a debilitating 12-0 windup in the first set.

They never let up from there, dominating the Foxies with their power game with setter Deanna Wong also activating the rest of Choco Mucho’s hitters, including Des Cheng, Caitlin Viray, Maddie Madayag, Kat Tolentino, Bea de Leon and Cherry Nunag.

Farm Fresh, which also squandered leads and yielded a three-set result to Chery Tiggo last Tuesday, fell to 0-2 in a tie with the Galeries Tower Highrisers.
Cheng added 10 markers while Viray and Madayag each scored nine points and Tolentino and de Leon had four points apiece and Nunag chipped in three points.
Wong finished iwth 11 excellent sets and added two points in the victory.

The Flying Titans came away with 48 attack points, 18 more than the Foxies, and scored seven aces against two of the Foxies.

Trisha Tubu unleashed a 14-hit game while Kate Santiago added seven markers and Joan Narit and Jade Gentapa combined for 12 points for the Foxies, who matched the Flying Titans’ seven blocks but reeled back in the face of the Flying Titans’ assaults in the last two sets of their 70-minute duel.

“We were a little bit off at the start but we were able to recover and we got the win,” said Choco Mucho coach Dante Alinsunurin. “Thankful din ako sa players ko kasi nakuha naman namin yung mga napag-aralan namin.”
