Hidilyn glad weightlifting reinstated in 2028 Olympics

“The IOC EB recommends its inclusion on the LA28 sports program following the decision by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to delegate its anti-doping management to the International Testing Agency and its sanctioning to the Court of Arbitration for Sport at least until the end of 2028,” the Olympic committee said in a statement.

“The effectiveness of the anti-doping programs for the Paris 2024 Olympic qualification and Olympic competition will continue to be closely monitored by the IOC, as will the implementation of the governance and cultural changes adopted by the IWF,” it added.

“Olympic weightlifting will remain as part of the Olympic movement,” the IWF Athletes Commission (IWF AC) wrote in their story. “Appreciate the leadership of the IWF leadership and all stakeholders for the major turnaround on governance and transparency.”

Hidilyn Diaz, the Philippines’ first gold medalist and a member of the IWF AC, shared this statement on her Instagram story on Saturday.

Recently, Diaz finished in 4th place at her new 59-kilogram weightlifting class at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

In preparation for her bid for the upcoming Paris Olympics next year, she had been training alongside fellow weightlifter Rosegie Ramos, through posts shared by her husband-coach Julius Naranjo.

They are also preparing for the upcoming IWF Grand Prix II in Doha, Qatar.
