Kennon Road to Baguio open to light vehicles

BAGUIO CITY – The iconic Kennon Road, one of the three gateways to this city, the others being the Aspiras-Palispis Highway or Marcos Highway and the Bauang-Baguio or Naguilian Road, reopened on Saturday, December 23, to light vehicles to ease traffic going to the Summer Capital.

Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong, chairman of the Metro BLISTT Development Authority, said only light vehicles, both public and private, weighing 10 tons and below are allowed to use the almost 34-kilometer Kennon Road, the shortest route to this city.

Magalong said public utility vehicles, including UV Express plying the Baguio-Rosario route, are also allowed to use Kennon Road, but only with a maximum speed limit of 40 kph.

He said the opening of Kennon Road to two-way traffic will ease traffic on the 47-kilometer Marcos Highway.

Meanwhile, the Baguio City Police Office is strictly enforcing the Vacation Lane for people going to tourist destinations here and the Cordillera.

A signage for the Vacation Lane, which aims to encourage people bound for tourist destinations in the Cordillera to take alternative routes without having to pass through this city,  was installed at the entry points of Kennon Road, Marcos Highway, Naguilian Road, and North Sanitary Camp to guide them.
