Romeo joins SMB practice, eyes return

THREE-TIME PBA Scoring champion Terrence Romeo has started practicing with San Miguel Beer (SMB), a good sign for the Beermen, who entered Season 48 hit by the injury bug.

Romeo has been out for nearly a month since sustaining bone contusion on his leg, which he sustained during the Beermen’s win over the Meralco Bolts on November 20.

But SMB physiotherapist Edward Bacason confirmed to The Manila Times that the 5-foot-10 guard already joined practice, raising hopes that Romeo could possibly play when the Beermen return to action on Friday against the reigning Commissioner’s Cup champions Barangay Ginebra Kings.

The Beermen are currently at sixth spot with their even 3-3 record, having lost back-to-back against the NorthPort Batang Pier and league-leader Magnolia Hotshots.

Romeo’s possible return will be a big plus for an SMB side that just recently lost seven-time league Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo to an injury after fracturing his left wrist against Rain or Shine.

The 34-year-old superstar slotman is out for over a month based on estimate by team doctor. Fajardo joined offseason acquisition Jeron Teng and Vic Manuel on the injury list.

The 6-3 Teng is still recovering from a hamstring injury while Manuel recently underwent minor surgery on his knee.

The Beermen though has high hopes also that their recent player movement that saw them acquire Don Trollano in a three-team trade last Monday could boost their playoff bid.
