LOOK: This couture piece is adorned with old phones, CDs, and computer motherboards

Paris Couture Week is all about the grandest runway moments. Deigners and brands are blessed with the arduous task of creating collections and shows that take clothing to an artistic level. The first to showcase that is creative director and fashion designer Daniel Roseberry with his spring 2024 couture collection for Schiaparelli. After sending out pieces with realistic animal sculptures and taking inspiration from surrealist art, he now looks at tech and space in creating the brand’s grand couture line.

One piece that perfectly encapsulates Daniel’s inspiration is a dress adorned with pre-iPhone-era tech items. Think of flip phones, computer motherboards, CDs, electronic chips, and a calculator. These elements make the stunning high-neck long-sleeved piece that is called the Robot dress. To add flair, the dress is also dotted with Swarovski crystal. Completing the look is a vintage-inspired curved bracelet in acrylic and Swarovski crystals, a matching minaudière with signature keyhole detail, and a pair of back leather cowboy-inspired mules with “S”-shaped heels—the latter is a nod to his Texas roots.

The dress is part of the “Schiaparalien” spring 2024 couture collection, which pays homage to Elsa Schiaparelli’s uncle Giovanni Schiaparelli, the director of the Brera Observatory in Milan. According to the brand, in 1877, Giovanni “discovered something new: a series of channels, an area as large as the Grand Canyon, scoring the surface of Mars. He also coined the term “martian”, and inadvertently began our modern fascination with creatures from out there, a fascination that continues to this day.”

Apart from the Robot dress, also present on the runway are black pieces exploring different fabrications (e.g. vinyl and velvet) in outlandish silhouettes, a dreamy petal gown, strawberry-shaped skirts, and a tank dress with men’s boxer short motif.
