Maroons acquire Fil-Am Miguel Yniguez

University of the Philippines intensified its men’s basketball recruitment after bringing Fil-American Miguel Yniguez into the fold.

The 6-foot-5 sharpshooting wing, who spent the last year seeing action for San Francisco State in the U.S. NCAA Division II, is now taking his act to Diliman where he will be eligible to play for four seasons after serving his residency come the UAAP Season 88.

“We’re looking forward to the contributions na mabibigay ni Miguel sa’tin. Matagal na nating nakitang he can be a big help for our team so it’s good na tuloy na tuloy na nga,” said Maroons head coach Goldwin Monteverde.

Interestingly, Yniguez is no stranger to the Diliman fold as he previously played in one game for the Fighting Maroons in the 2023 Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup in July of last year.

After the short-lived stint, Yniguez’s was grateful to see the development lead to his transfer which was made official during the MBT’s U.S. trip led by Monteverde and UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.

“I am beyond blessed to announce that I am committing to the University of the Philippines. To everyone who has helped me continue my journey, maraming-maraming salamat po!” Yniguez reacted on a social media post.
