The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said that the agency has successfully printed and dispatched over 50 million national IDs for Filipinos who have registered to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

In a statement, PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa said a total of 50.065 million PhilIDs have already been printed and dispatched for delivery as of December 22, 2023.

“More and more Filipinos can now enjoy the benefits of being PhilSys-registered. We encourage our kababayans to fully utilize the PhilID and make it their primary ID in their transactions,” said Mapa, who is also the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General.

“We would also like to assure the public that we will continue to expedite the issuance and delivery of PhilIDs so that Filipinos can enjoy the convenience of having a valid ID in their transactions,” he added.

Parallel to PhilID printing and delivery, Mapa said the PSA is also exhausting all means to register the last mile of the population.

Through mobile registration efforts, PSA personnel are ensuring coverage of Filipinos residing in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs).

For instance, the PSA implemented the PhilSys on Wheels, where vehicles carrying registration kits are brought to GIDAs to register residents on the spot.

Meanwhile, the PhilSys’ PhilID has been recognized as the Best New National ID Card by a global consultancy firm Granted by Reconnaissance International.

At the High Security Printing (HDP) Asia Conference’s Regional Banknote and ID Document of the Year Awards, Granted recognized PhilID for the “outstanding achievement and technical sophistication of a personal identification or travel document.”

The award also cites PhilSys as a foundational digital identification system for exemplifying “the best in system infrastructure and implementation of a government passport, identity or other secure identification scheme.”

“We, at the PSA, welcome the recognition and take it as an affirmation of the efforts to establish and implement PhilSys,” Mapa said.

Established in 2018, PhilSys is the single national identification system for all Filipino citizens and resident aliens.

It aims to provide a valid proof of identity to registered persons, including the PhilSys Number (PSN) or the 12-digit permanent identification number, and the PhilID or the non-transferrable physical ID card.

The valid proof of identity provided by PhilSys is a means of simplifying public and private transactions, and is a social and economic platform that promotes seamless social service delivery and strengthens financial inclusion for both public and private services.

PhilSys is also seen as a driver of digital transformation in the delivery of services and in the transition to a digital economy, including enabling presenceless, paperless, and cashless transactions.
