Centeno upsets Austrian rival, barges into Las Vegas Last 16

Filipina cue artist Chezka Centeno made a huge comeback against Austria’s Jasmin Ouschan to eke out a 0-4, 4-1, 4-3 win and barge into the last 16 of the women’s 10-Ball Las Vegas Open at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino on Friday, Feb. 23 (Manila time).

Centeno, a 24-year-old 10-ball world champion, bucked a slow start as she managed to counter and survived a hill-hill thriller against Ouschan in their best-of-three match to inch closer to the $18,000 (P1 million) grand prize in the women’s championship.

Jasmin, the older sister of top player Albin Ouschan, actually made a strong statement in the early going of the match but lost her steam against the pride of Zamboanga City.

For her next opponent, Centeno will await the winner in the matches from the 65-72 draws.

Centeno recently whipped American-based Filipina Emilyn Callado, 4-0, 4-0 in the first round.

Meanwhile, Dori De Leon bowed out of contention after yielding to USA’s Callado (2-1) and Sue Orr (2-0). — Mark Rey Montejo
