Marcio Lassiter hopes to end futility in All-Star three-point shootout

Marcio Lassiter hopes to end his record of futility in the PBA All-Star three-point shootout and get the long coveted crown that would further validate his status as one of the deadliest shooters the league has ever seen.

Lassiter is now in the top 5 of the all-time three-point list but still without a three-point shootout crown even after seven tries in the All-Star festivities. Only him and LA Tenorio don’t own a trophy while the other three in Jimmy Alapag, Allan Caidic and James Yap all have at least one.

He came closest last year when he placed second behind defending champion Paul Lee and the San Miguel Beer marksman feels this year could be his time.

“You always want to get one as a shooter obviously last year was one of my closest one. I want to build on last year’s three-point and put another good showing obviously for the fans,” said Lassiter.

“I’m definitely going to shoot for it like I do every year. I hope I get a good start and carry me through the end like last year,” he added.

A perennial contender in the All-Star side event, Lassiter already saw all kinds of tough competition and this year’s edition is no different. Of course, out to defend his title as the best shooter is Lee along with the league’s other finest shooters.

“We get good shooters every year. These are guys who are just like me, catch and shoot and some are rhythm shooters but it just depends on how the ball bounces sometimes,” said Lassiter who is definitely still one of the favorites after shooting 80 percent from deep this conference.

“I just got to focus on myself because I know all of us can win it any given night. Anyone can win it. I just have to focus on myself and make sure to get quality shots,” he added.

Or perhaps have a defender in front of him while participating in the contest.

“Maybe I just need a defender to guard me honestly that might be the key as someone just kinda get close to me,” he said in jest. — Reynald I. Magallon
