Marcos to reassemble UniTeam for 2025 polls

After the merger of two major political parties in the country—Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and Lakas-CMD, President Marcos is bent on reassembling the UniTeam ahead of the 2025 elections.

Marcos wants to reassemble the UniTeam alliance given the success it achieved in the last elections, which put him in the presidency.

“Pagka–kagaya ng ating ginawa sa nakaraang halalan ay bubuuin uli natin–di naman (like what we did in the previous elections, we will reassemble) –we have to formalize it because may political cycle, so bubuuin na uli natin at maifo-formalize uli natin ang UniTeam (we will reassemble and formalize UniTeam anew), Marcos said in his speech during the signing of alliance on Wednesday, May 8.

UniTeam was an alliance formed by Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte for their electoral bid in 2022. Since the alliance’s success, it’s been hounded with several rift allegations which the President constantly refuted.

Marcos said the political alliance will continue to foster unity among its members and allies as it has been proven effective from the elections to his governance.

“What we have conceptualized, we really began in the previous campaign and (given the results of) the previous election and we are encouraged,” he said.

The President also said he was encouraged by the overwhelming support of the Filipino people during the 2022 presidential elections, prompting the creation of the UniTeam.

“And that is why unity is very important. And so, as we approach this political cycle, at we will be filing, we will be filing already in October. The election is coming next year in May,” he also said.

Meanwhile, the President said the forging of alliance between the two major political parties in the country is a “significant moment not just for Philippine politics, but also for the field of public service.”

He said the alliance that they forged on Wednesday is poised to “propel our country towards the Bagong Pilipinas that  we envision.”

The alliance plans to field a full slate of senatorial candidates for the 2025 midterm elections.
